Gold and silver are wonderful, infinitely malleable materials. But once our rings are finished, they can only be stretched or squeezed so far. Generally, most rings can be resized by half a size or so (but this varies from ring to ring). So we do our best to get it right the first time.
Because jewelers’ tools are not standardized, sizes are not consistent from jeweler to jeweler. Visiting a local jeweler or knowing the size of another ring you already own, while helpful, is not always accurate for our purposes.
And so… we would be happy to send you a free ring sizer. Using our little plastic ring sizer is an easy, no cost way to determine your size, or to double-check if you think you already know it. Our sizers are calibrated to our tools, so using one is a great way to get it right.
Bonus points: if you use our sizer and your ring still requires a size adjustment, we will waive the resizing fee and charge only for shipping. Otherwise, a $25 fee will apply for simple resizes (stretched bigger by up to a half size), and a restocking fee of up to $75 will apply for returns or exchanges.
If you are ready to purchase but don’t know your size, click on Ring Sizer! from the dropdown menu at checkout. We’ll send one right out and will add your size info to our work order when you report back. If you’re not ready to purchase yet but would like to request a free ring sizer, please email us at downtothewiredesigns@gmail.com.

We strive to get it right the first time, but bodies are every-changing and rings sometimes need an adjustment. In those cases, we are generally able to resize your ring approximately one half size larger or smaller. Some rings, however, cannot be altered. Below you will find a list of the types of rings you will find in our shop and the fees for a simple resizing (depending upon the complexity of the work). If you are unsure of what type of ring you are purchasing, we are happy to answer any questions. Resizing fees, which include return shipping, are:
• Silver rings (domestic orders): $35 - $75
• Silver rings (international orders): $50 - $100
• Gold rings (domestic orders): $35 - $75
• Gold rings (international orders): For your own convenience, We highly recommend that you have your ring resized by a reputable jeweler in your own country, as the multiple shipping charges, customs fees, etc. to you may be quite prohibitive.
Please be aware that rings with gemstones may not be resizable:
• Rings with flush-set gemstones: These rings cannot be resized, but you may be able to exchange your ring for one with a better fit. Please check the Returns section to see which rings we are able to accept for an exchange.
• Rings with a bezel on top of the band: Depending upon the style, we may be able to resize your ring.
• Rings with inset bezels: These rings cannot be resized, but you may be able to exchange your ring for one with a better fit. Please check the Returns section to see which rings we are able to accept for an exchange. If you receive an item that is not to your satisfaction for any reason, please contact us upon receipt and we will work with you to try to correct it, repairing or altering the item as needed or allowing you to exchange or return it. All exchanges and returns must be shipped back to us within seven days of receipt and should be sent back insured. If you do not insure your package, we cannot be responsible for any loss or damage in transit.

Wedding jewelry and more expensive pieces will be sent via USPS Priority Mail. For security purposes, we often require a signature upon delivery. Let us know if you prefer to waive the signature requirement for your package.
Most of our earrings and necklaces are sent via USPS First Class Mail, which usually arrives domestically (inside the U.S.) within one week. You can upgrade the shipping for speedier delivery at checkout. Unless you request otherwise, we will ship to the address on your order invoice.
We will email you to confirm both receipt of your order and shipment of your order. Please watch for these emails. If you have a spam filter on your email account, you might not see these emails. Communication is important to us, so please feel free to reach out if you do not hear from us, especially if you have questions or concerns about your order.
Items are shipped in our branded Down to the Wire jewelry box, in a padded envelope to protect against damage. If your purchase is a gift and you would like it shipped directly to the recipient, we are happy to do so. We will gladly include a note from you upon request. Just let us know who the gift is for and what you would like the note to say when you place your order.
Finally, we do ship internationally but cannot be responsible for additional customs, tariff, or additional fees that may be attached to international shipments. We are unable to comply with requests to mark the package as a “gift” on the customs form. If you find shipping is not available to your country at checkout, please contact us and we’ll make it happen :) -
Just as you’d take extra care with a favorite sweater, treating your new ring gently ensures it will last a lifetime.
• Clean your ring with a soft toothbrush and warm, soapy water.
• Try not to bang your ring on hard surfaces.
• Remove your ring or wear gloves when doing tough chores like gardening or car repair. Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine or bleach.
• Remove your ring at the beach or pool! By far, most of the lost rings we’ve replaced have slipped off while swimming.
• Contact us for questions about caring for specific gemstones.
Gold and silver are durable metals, but they will eventually show the wear of daily life. Edges will soften and surfaces will mellow. We encourage you to embrace these changes. They are evidence of a life well lived.
